Minute’s silence for Richie Jordan

Following the tragic death of former Sunderland RCA and Ryhope Colliery Welfare player Richie Jordan at the weekend, there will be a minute’s silence before Saturday’s FA Cup tie between the two teams.

There will also be a collection for his partner Carol and daughter Quinn.

Richie played under Martin Swales for both RCA and Ryhope CW.  He said:  “He loved a challenge and would run through a brick wall for you – his courage was unbelievable.

“Everybody is devastated and several of my players at RCA played with him at Colliery Welfare.  It was very emotional last night at Guisborough who kindly held a minute’s silence.  I can’t think what it will be like on Saturday, with a lot of family and friends there.”

Ryhope chairman Darren Norton added:  “Richie changed the course of our history.  He scored the winner in the Monkwearmouth Cup against Cleator Moor Celtic – and that was the club’s first trophy for more than 40 years.”
