The League Management Committee has decided to cancel this season’s First Division Cup and the Ernest Armstrong Cup.

The decision comes with the increase in power costs that clubs are facing, making the holding of midweek cup matches for many clubs unsustainable.

League chairman Glenn Youngman said:  “It was a difficult decision as we would obviously have preferred to run our two cup competitions, but the long-term financial position of clubs is more important.  Many clubs are facing potentially much higher bills in the coming months and we felt it right that we should not make their position more difficult by organising cup competitions.”
