It’s that time of year again – when the Ebac Northern League is back in business.

There are two games tonight – at Heaton Stannington and Blyth Town, with the rest of the fixtures tomorrow, quickly followed by plenty of matches during the week.

League chairman Glenn Youngman said:  “I’m sure everyone is looking forward to the start of the new season, with the opening two league matches tonight.

“It’s been all change since the end of last season:  We have lost North Shields and Consett to promotion and Durham City who were relegated to the Wearside League.  In their place we welcome Pickering Town, Boro Rangers, Chester-le-Street United and Prudhoe YC Seniors.  We hope they enjoy competing in a new league and visiting new grounds.  I’m sure they’ll be made to feel welcome.

“I’d also like to thank everyone involved in our league – from players, officials, volunteers, coaches and spectators.  And special thanks to our main sponsors Ebac, whose continued support is very much appreciated, along with our kit sponsors Motif8.

“It promises to be a thrilling season.  We hope you enjoy it.”

The four new teams are away in their first games:  Pickering at Bishop Auckland, Boro Rangers at Redcar Town, Chester-le-Street United in a derby against Chester-le-Street Town, with Prudhoe YC Seniors at Blyth.
