BISHOPS CLINCH TITLE
Bishop Auckland were tonight crowned champions of the Ebac Northern League with tonight’s emphatic win at Newcastle Benfield.
League chairman Glenn Youngman said: “It’s a tremendous achievement.
“Bishop Auckland have led the league for much of the season and are deserved champions, with only two losses.
“Congratulations to everyone at the club – from the players and coaching staff to the fans and the volunteers who work so hard behind the scenes.”
Manager Chris Hardy said: “We showed some quality tonight and have got over the line emphatically. We’re absolutely delighted to secure the championship. We are now looking for 100 points, but the guys will enjoy the moment.
“Over the season I honestly believe we have been the best team in the league. Shildon have kept us honest all the way through and fair play to them, but the title has gone to the right club. I’m proud of the guys.”
Chairman Steve Coulthard added: “I’m delighted for the fans and especially for those people who have worked so hard and supported the club behind the scenes for so many years.”
The league will now discuss the presentation of the Division One trophy with the club.
