POINTS PER GAME FAVOURED BY CLUBS
Following a request from the FA, we have consulted widely with our clubs on any proposal for ending the coming season with another incomplete fixture schedule, due to further Covid-19 restrictions.
The result of the consultation exercise shows an overwhelming majority in favour, if the season were to end with 75% of games played, of promotion and relegation being decided on a points per game (PPG) formula.
Many would also prefer a season to be declared null and void if fewer games than that were played.
Because clubs may not have played equal numbers of home and away fixtures in the result of a curtailment, either because of cup ties or the weather, the league’s view is that the PPG formula should be a weighted average.
More than two-thirds of clubs responded to the survey.
