NORTHERN LEAGUE DIVISION ONE

Matches played Friday 20th February

Carlisle City 0–3 Penrith (Att: 262)

Penrith produced a good second-half display to claim all three points at Carlisle City. After a goalless first half, the visitors found their breakthrough on 65 minutes when Connor Hammell fired home. Just four minutes later, Luke Brown doubled the advantage to put Penrith firmly in control. Carlisle pushed to respond but were caught again deep into stoppage time, with Ellis Trotter adding a third in the 93rd minute to seal an emphatic away victory.  Penrith rose up the table to 11th with Carlisle dropping to 14th.

Matches played Saturday 21st February

North Shields 1–0 Boro Rangers (Att: 254)

North Shields left it late to edge out Boro Rangers in dramatic fashion. With the game seemingly heading for a stalemate, Ryan Carr struck in the 90th minute to snatch victory for the hosts and send the home supporters home delighted.  North Shields are in 9th with Boro Rangers six points ahead in 5th.

West Auckland Town 2–1 Kendal Town (Att: 203)

Kendal left it late but snatched the three points with a late strike.  Kendal took the lead through Jamie Looker on 18 minutes, but West Auckland responded strongly after the break with Craig Moody levelling from the penalty spot on 48 minutes.  Kendal were reduced to ten men when Jack Millburn was sent off in the 63rd minute. Wayne Whitfield made the extra man count when he dramatically secured the win with a 90th-minute strike. West Auckland rose to 6th with Kendal six points ahead in 4th.

West Allotment Celtic 1–5 Horden Community Welfare (Att: 45)

West Allotment slipped to another home defeat when Horden CW hit them for five.  Chris Wallace opened the scoring on 24 minutes, and Elliot Wilson added two more before the interval (27, 38) to put the visitors firmly in control. Ben Riding made it four on 63 minutes, shortly before James McIntyre netted a consolation for Allotment (65). An own goal from Max Monaghan in the 81st minute completed a difficult afternoon for the hosts and the points were taken back to Durham.  Horden are 8th with West Allotment Celtic dropping to the bottom of the table.

Thornaby 2–3 Shildon (Att: 169)

An entertaining contest saw Shildon edge out Thornaby in a five-goal thriller. The visitors took the lead on 8 minutes when Adam Lennox scored.  James Sayer equalised very quickly but the game swung in Shildon’s favour when Adam Lennox (42) scored again just before the interval. Billy Greulich-Smith added a third on 73 minutes to give Shildon a cushion and even though Luke Drummond pulled one back in stoppage time (90+3), it proved too late to deny the visitors.  Shildon remained top of the table with a five point gap on Guisborough Town in second, but Guisborough have three games in hand.  Thornaby are in 16th place.

Guisborough Town 1–0 Marske United (Att: 522)

In front of the day’s biggest crowd, Guisborough Town claimed local bragging rights with a narrow win over Marske United. Touwani Osiyemi’s 38th-minute strike proved decisive in a tightly contested encounter.   Guisborough remained in 2nd with Marske in 18th.

Crook Town 0–3 Newcastle Benfield (Att: 190)

Newcastle Benfield secured a comfortable away win with a professional performance at Crook Town. Joseph Thompson netted twice (22, 83), with Lewis Orrell adding a goal on 66 minutes. Crook’s afternoon worsened late on when Adam Lennox was shown a red card in the 86th minute.  Newcastle Benfield rose to 13th with Crook Town in 15th.

Whitley Bay 2–1 Easington Colliery (Att: 347)

Whitley Bay struck twice in quick succession before half-time to secure victory. Jack Errington (42) and Mikel Thompson (44) gave the hosts a comfortable lead. Andrew Nelson pulled one back for Easington Colliery in the 86th minute, but Bay held on for the points.  Easington Colliery remained in 7th with Whitley Bay moving up to 3rd.

Whickham 3–1 Northallerton Town (Att: 149)

A dramatic finish at the Glebe Ground.  After falling behind to Harry Croft’s 19th-minute goal, Whickham responded strongly in the second half. Joseph Aungiers equalised on 58 minutes.  As the game was reaching its climax Joseph Aungiers put the home side in front with three minutes to go and Daniel Craggs added a stoppage-time third (92) to complete an impressive comeback victory.  Whickham moved off the bottom of the table into 19th place with Northallerton in 17th.
