Myers Delighted with Winning Start As Northallerton Town Manager

Colin Myers praised his players’ resilience and togetherness after beginning life in charge of Northallerton Town with an impressive 3–1 victory.

Taking charge for the first time, Myers admitted there was added pressure on the occasion and stressed the importance of securing all three points.

“It was a great win today, we had to win, there’s no doubt about it,” he said. “It was all about the win. The lads were brilliant. I’m especially pleased with how the new lads and the old lads have gelled together. They’ve all put a shift in, followed instructions and done really well.”

Northallerton found themselves 1–0 down at half-time despite dominating possession, a setback Myers felt was undeserved.

“It was against the run of play,” he said. “I was a bit disappointed with their goal because we were dominant at the time and a little lapse in concentration let them in. But it shows resilience that the lads came back even stronger and finished the game well.”

Town responded superbly after the break, turning the game around with a confident second-half display. Among the positives was a debut goal for Jake Dobinson, who quickly made his mark.

“It’s a team game,” Myers added. “We’ve got to get them to gel, which is the challenge for myself and Deon at the moment. They’ve done really well today, but there’s a lot of hard work to do. We’re going to face better sides — no disrespect to West Allotment — and we’ve got to get the three or four wins we need to guarantee our safety.”

The result provides breathing space over the bottom two, though Myers insists his focus remains firmly on his own side’s performances.

“It does give us a little buffer, but I’m not really bothered about what the bottom two do,” he said. “It’s all about us — how we perform and what points we can pick up. We can’t influence what they do, but we can influence what we do.”

Despite the challenge ahead, Myers believes the victory provides a timely boost.

“It gives us confidence going forward. On Tuesday we’ll probably have to defend for long spells and we won’t be as dominant. But it’s about concentration, resilience and building the confidence of these lads as we move forward.”
