TERRIERS HIT TOP FORM
WASHY PICK UP HUGE THREE POINTS
Bedlington Terriers 4 Jarrow 1 – Ebac Northern League Division Two
Play-off bound Bedlington Terriers hit top form with perfect timing. They put on an impressive display to complete a convincing win over the South Tynesiders.
My first note of the match was eight minutes in: “Jarrow pinned back by early Terriers pressure.” That would be the theme for most of the rest of the match, a match mainly played in Jarrow’s half, with the visitors only able to muster the occasional attack.
Terriers No. 8 Danny Anderson was pulling the strings in midfield, spraying an array of passes around the pitch. They took the lead in the 20th minute when they were given a second chance. Left back Joe Richardson hit a corner into the area, the ball was cleared straight back to him, giving him another opportunity to drill the ball back into the goalmouth where No. 10 James Wilson was on hand to knock it over the line from a foot or two away.
They doubled their tally in the 29th minute – Anderson providing the ball in from a corner and Jake Cairns leaping unmarked (see photo) to head it into the net, with the defence ball watching.
By the 35th minute Jarrow had yet to test Terriers keeper Adam Cameron whose kit was still in pretty pristine condition. They gave themselves a way into the match a couple of minutes before half-time – a break down the left saw Alex Morland knock the ball up to winger Owen Mitchell who was tripped as he ran into the box. The referee didn’t hesitate to award a penalty and Liam Mulvain planted it low and right to make it 2-1.
In added time Terriers No. 9 Joe Ames had a shot that Jarrow keeper James McGregor grabbed at the second attempt just before Jakub Zych could latch on to the loose ball.
It was more of the same in the second half, Jarrow having to work overtime defensively. Early on Wilson had a header tipped over the bar and the Terriers scored their third in the 64th minute, left back Joe Richardson finishing off a three man move that sliced through the Jarrow team before the No. 3’s shot nestled inside the right hand post.
Jarrow came close to pulling a goal back when a shot by substitute Luke Duffy was cleared off the line by Jack Watson but it was Terriers who scored the next and final goal with a quick and incisive counter attack: Ames played the ball out to Zych whose cross was met by Joe Thompson to round off a dominant performance.
NB – As ever, the Jarrow choir was in fine voice, it was just a shame that they didn’t have much to sing about as far as action on the pitch was concerned, but that didn’t stop them flexing their communal larynx from beginning to end. You may not win the Eurovision Song Contest but it was great to hear your support for your team.

Washington 3-0 Prudhoe YC Seniors – Ebac Northern League Division Two
Washington picked up a crucial three points in their fight to beat the drop as they defeated Prudhoe YC Seniors.
The first chance of the game went to Prudhoe just three minutes in – Darren Graham picked out the unmarked Lutfur Karim in the area but the striker could only volley over the bar.
Washington had a great chance to open the scoring in the 20th minute. Isam Mohamed found Jack Docherty with a long ball over the top, but the forward put his effort the wrong side of the post.
Prudhoe had the majority of possession and looked like the team who would create the better chances but the heavy pitch made it difficult for both teams to move the ball quickly.
The away side had a couple of chances just before the break – Will Morris forced a brilliant save from Alexander Lawrence at his near post before Matt Law fired over from the edge of the area.
Washington took the lead on the stroke of half time and arguably against the run of play when Tom Brugge’s cross was met by Jak Hanson who fired home beyond Tom White.
They doubled their lead just after the restart – Docherty brilliantly beat his man before driving forward and squaring to George Rounsfell who fired the ball beyond White.
The hosts added a third in the 57th minute as Docherty added to his assist with an excellent strike from 30 yards out which cannoned in off the underside of the bar.
The remainder of the second half didn’t see much action. Prudhoe pushed forward to get back in the game but Washington held firm and denied Prudhoe any clear-cut chances.
Washington host Blyth Town in their next match, whilst Prudhoe YC Seniors welcome Boldon CA.
