TERRIERS MOVE UP TO THIRD

Washington 0-3 Bedlington Terriers – Ebac Northern League Division Two

Bedlington Terriers moved up to third place in the Ebac Northern League Division Two after a 3-0 win away to Washington.

The first opening 15 minutes saw a scrappy start to the match, with both teams struggling to keep a hold of the ball.

Washington came close to opening the scoring after 15 minutes, when George Rounsfell fired just over the bar after being sent through on goal.

The away side took the lead on the 20-minute mark – Jack Roys picked up the ball on the edge of the area and brilliantly curled the ball into the top corner with the outside of his boot.

Bedlington doubled their advantage 10 minutes before the break, as Matthew Hayton’s fantastic strike from 15 yards fizzed past Washy keeper Alex Lawrence.

The second half saw both sides reduced to half chances. Mason Burton and Adam Kirk both saw efforts fly just wide of the target for the hosts.

The visitors had a couple of chances to kill the game as Joe Thompson sent an effort over the bar, before Danny Anderson saw his powerful free kick tipped wide of the post.

Washington pushed forward in the second half trying to get themselves back into the game but it was Bedlington who scored the third goal of the night.

Washy failed to clear a corner which fell into the path of substitute Jacob Cairns who smashed the ball home from six yards out to seal his side’s victory.

Washington host Brandon United in their next game, whilst Bedlington Terriers travel to Prudhoe YC Seniors.
