FA VASE – FIRST ROUND PREVIEW

The road to Wembley continues this weekend as a number of our clubs participate in the FA Vase First Round.

One of the headline fixtures of the round sees local rivals Bishop Auckland and Newton Aycliffe go head-to-head in what will be a fiercely contested County Durham derby. With plenty of history between the clubs and local bragging rights at stake, it’s a tie that is sure to attract plenty of attention.

Elsewhere, there are all-Northern League clashes between Penrith and Carlisle City, Boldon CA and Jarrow, and Horden CW and Billingham Town, guaranteeing league representation in the next round.

Shildon host Handsworth FC, Blyth Town welcome Bottesford Town, while Whickham, Darlington Town, Durham United and Yarm & Eaglescliffe all face away trips as they look to keep their Vase dreams alive.

The FA Vase can always throw up some big surprises and shock results which go against current league form and with prize money and a road to Wembley on the line, it promises to be another big afternoon for the our FA Vase hopefuls.
